The European open source Voxit community has released versions 1.1 and 1.2 of the Voxit participation platform. The new releases introduce the first version of a new administration interface, add a feature to show prompts to participants during voting and enable the translation of conversation topics.
The updates represent the next step in the development of the shared European Voxit codebase, published earlier as version 1.0. The continued development strengthens the community’s ability to build open, interoperable and scalable digital participation infrastructure suited to European needs.
Voxit 1.1 introduces new administration tools
Voxit 1.1 includes the first release of the Voxit Administrative API Server and Administrative Frontend. Together, they provide a new interface for managing Voxit conversations and are designed as a compatible replacement for the administrative frontend used in Polis.
The new architecture separates the administrative frontend from the backend. This makes it easier to develop customised administration interfaces and integrate Voxit’s administrative functions into other digital services.
The initial release supports secure authentication through the OpenID Connect standard, the management of conversations across a Voxit instance and the creation of new statements.
Version 1.1 also introduces configurable interstitial screens in the Voxit Reference Frontend. These optional screens can be shown to participants after a defined number of consecutive votes. They can be used, for example, to provide additional information, encourage participants or introduce gamified elements into the participation experience.
Voxit 1.2 strengthens multilingual participation
Voxit 1.2 adds support for translated conversation topics and descriptions. Administrators can now provide these texts in several languages, and the translations are made available to user interfaces through the platform’s API.
The Voxit Reference Frontend automatically displays the translation that corresponds to the participant’s interface language. When a translation is not available, the platform falls back to the conversation’s default language.
This improvement makes it easier to organise inclusive conversations for multilingual communities and supports the use of Voxit across different European countries and language regions.
The release also includes bug fixes and internal improvements that enhance the platform’s reliability and provide a stronger foundation for future development.
Continuous European open source collaboration
The Voxit participation platform is based on the open source Polis platform originally developed by The Computational Democracy Project in the United States, but since its establishment in autumn 2025, the European Voxit community has been developing an independent solution, adapted to European needs.
Versions 1.1 and 1.2 demonstrate the benefits of the shared open source development model. Improvements developed within the community can be made available to all participating organisations, reducing duplicated work and enabling public-sector actors, developers and civil society organisations to contribute to a common digital infrastructure.
Through continued collaboration, the Voxit community aims to improve the platform’s usability, security, accessibility and adaptability.
